There used to be a large lake where the Pūteļi bog is now. A bathhouse used to stand where the Usma Lake is now. One evening, a mother with her child were coming from the bathhouse. Suddenly, they heard strong hissing above. As they looked up, they saw a dark lake coming their way. The child cried out: “Usmīgs! Usmīgs!”, wanting to say that the lake is angry (dusmīgs). The lake, whose name was Usma, dropped down because its name had been guessed and the bog, that can still be seen today, remained in its place.
